Learn One Verb, Know Them All
The pattern behind roughly 90% of German verbs — master it once, use it everywhere.
Why this matters: Unlike haben and sein, most German verbs are "regular" (regelmäßig) — they all conjugate the exact same way. Learn the pattern once with one verb, and you can immediately use it with hundreds of others: lernen, machen, spielen, wohnen, kaufen, kochen — all the same endings.
The Pattern: Stem + Ending
Every regular verb has a stem (remove -en from the infinitive) and a set of endings that never change. Take lernen (to learn) → stem = lern-.

| ihr | -t | ihr lernt |
| sie / Sie | -en | sie lernen |
Swap the stem and the endings stay identical: machen → ich mache, du machst, er macht... spielen → ich spiele, du spielst, er spielt... wohnen → ich wohne, du wohnst, er wohnt.
🇩🇪 Quick tip: Notice that wir and sie/Sie always look exactly like the infinitive form (lernen, machen, spielen). If you're ever unsure of a conjugation, you already know two of the six forms for free.
